Kamal Haasan’s disappointment with Dasavatharam

Well, if you feel that one and only story that has been holding its place in headlines of tinsel town for continuous three years, its Dasavatharam. Padmashri Kamal Haasan himself had addressed that its one of his biggest, longest and hardest projects in his entire career. With the actor himself curiously waiting for release of the film, Producer V. Ravichandran and his brother Ramesh Babu of Oscar Films have been disappointing Kamal Haasan over for a long time.

Right before couple of years, the movie was launched and Oscar Ravichandran had announced that Dasavatharam would be released along with Superstar Rajnikanth starrer Sivaji. However, there were no news about it later till Kamal Haasan himself started to talk openly about the film’ release. In a public gathering, he said, ‘Film’s release date has been confirmed on January 14, 2008 for the occasion of Pongal’. But it was a great disappointment for him when the film wasn’t released and then Brothers of Oscar Films came up with conclusion that they will be soon releasing the film on April 14 and audio launch will be held a month prior to it. Also Ravichandran had said the audio launch will have great stars including Jackie Chan taking part in it.

However, when asked about this to Kamal Haasan, his immediate reply was that he wasn’t informed about this earlier and it was shocking to hear about this through the third person.

Finally, Oscar Productions has again postponed the film’s release to May 2008 and this has dashed all the hopes of Kamal Haasan. He says, ‘I am completely out of this project for my works are completed and its producers who are delaying the release’

At present, Padmashri Kamal Haasan is geared up with two projects: Malayalam movie Kandhahar with Mohan Lal directed by Major Ravi and Marmayogi produced by Walt Disney.

Meanwhile, we are happy in getting you the first, best and interesting snippets on Dasavatharam and keep logging to our website for more…

Agaram Foundation

hat?! A movie involving Mani Ratnam, Vijay, Harris Jayaraj, Jyothika, K.V. Anand, Madhavan and Surya? Is that possible? It’s not only possible – the film is even ready to be released! Also involved are Kamal Hassan, Aamir Khan, Simran, and Prakash Raj. It’s called Hero Va Zero Va, and it’s a documentary produced by the Agaram Foundation which managed by Sivakumar, Surya and Jyothika. The film looks at the issue of child labour and children dropping out of school. Based on a report/document researched and prepared by the Agaram Foundation (with CM Karunanidhi and Education Minister Thangam Thenarasu motivating them), the film shows Surya, Madhavan, Jyothika and Vijay each taking a child to school. Each of these children had to overcome various hurdles (ignorance of parents, lack of motivation, the prejudice of educating the girl child, etc) and they do so with these four stars motivating them to get an education.

In a function today, Surya screened the film and spoke a little more about it. A promotional video for the documentary that had been shot earlier involved Kamal, Aamir, Simran, Vijay and Prakash Raj speaking. The day Aamir was to do his bit in the video, he had that accident and the production team was messaging him to say they would shoot it later, but Aamir was already messaging them to say he had already shot himself speaking for the promo video and was sending it on Beta to them. Surya thanked Vijay profusely for giving his time. Vijay as a rule, noted Surya, never goes out on Sundays, especially after 4 pm. Surya had asked him for one Sunday morning, but the shoot involved two Sundays, and it went beyond six p.m. But, said Surya, Vijay never made a fuss. All the other celebrities, added Surya, had been generous with their time also.

The film is directed by V. Priya, photographed by K.V. Anand, with music by Harris Jayaraj. Mani Ratnam helped Roshini and Thomas with the story. Director Priya said she was thrilled to be working with so many film luminaries, and directing four stars at the same time!

Hindu outfits against Dasavatharam but Censor Board comes to rescue

Dasavatharam has always been facing external problems from the time of its inception. Now it is the International Sri Vaishnava Dharma Samrakshanaa Society who had filed a writ petition seeking for a direction to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to remove “offending scenes” in the film ‘Dasavatharam’.

According to forum president Govinda Ramanuja Dasa, the scenes depicting a violent clash between Saivite and Vaishanvite sects of Hinduism; Kamal stepping on ‘pranava mantram’ and the Bhagvad Gita; and the scene in which Kamal is tied to the idol of Lord Ranganathar and pushed into the sea, offended the faith and sentiments of Vaishnavites. Admitting the writ petition, a vacation bench of Justice Rajasuriya and Justice M Sathyanarayanan issued notices to the censor board, producer Oscar Films and director K S Ravikumar.

A counter filed by advocate K. Ravi on behalf of film director K.S. Ravikumar said there was no scene depicting either Mr.Kamal Hassan or any other character in the film trampling on the mantra ‘Om’ or the sacred Bhagavat Gita. The regional officer of the Central Board of Film Certification, Babu Rammasami, in his counter-affidavit, said the petitioner had not explained as to how and why the title, ‘Dasavatharam,’ offended the religious faith. The title does not violate any of the guidelines in the Cinematograph Act and a film with the same title had been certified by the CBFC.

It does not contain any violent sectorial clash between Saivites and Vaishnavites and no scene in the film would foster hatred between the sects, he said. The Board, which issued certificate to the film on April 22, said it was fully convinced by the film. The bench posted the matter for hearing to next week and asked the respondents to file counters.

Sibiraj in an offbeat role

Actor Sibiraj was not seen for sometime after Lee. This fast paced action hero is donning an entirely different off beat role in the film Siddhartha which will be directed by debutant Sivadevan, a one-time associate of veteran director K Balachander. The shooting for the film will start by the end of May. Sibiraj despite having lot of offers waited patiently to get a good script and when he heard Siddhartha his joy was leap and bounds. He immediately opted for this film which would be a turning point in his career.

His cool patience has really paid him. Siddhartha” means “he who has attained his goals” or “every wish fulfilled” The Buddha’s name, before his renunciation, was Prince Siddhartha Gautama, later the Buddha. The story line of this film is that a person who was very much absorbed in earthly pleasures wants to reform himself like Buddha. He returns to the new life renouncing all the earthly pleasures. Does the society allow him to reform, forms the crux of the film. Vijay Anthony is composing the tunes for this film while Velraj wields the camera. S.Sudhakaran is producing this film under the banner Friends Festival Films. The shooting will take place in and around Madurai.
